BUFFALO RIVER ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY: FIRST MEETING

Date: February 2, 2012 Time: 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Event Description  The Buffalo River Archaeological Society (BRAS) will hold its opening meeting Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 at the Perry County Arts Commission office (115 Factory Street) in Linden. Factory Street is located in downtown Linden south off of Main Street (SR 20/US 412). Upon arrival, enter the front doors of the building and take the first door on the right. The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM. We will discuss the founding and organization of BRAS and have an informative presentation by guest speaker, Mr. Guy Weaver (Weaver and Associates, LLC) of Memphis. Mr. Weaver’s cultural resources firm conducted recent archaeological data recovery excavations for the TDOT at the SR 13 crossing of Buffalo River just north of Flatwoods in south Perry County. Weaver’s excavations there documented Native American archaeological deposits at three localities that span some 10,000 years of site use. The presentation will provide a wonderful example of the types of archaeological deposits scattered along Buffalo River and her tributaries. We hope you will attend the societies’ first meeting and look forward to seeing you.
